Just like it had happened in many other aspects of our lives, technology is shaping –and changing the automotive industry, taking us to a more connected and digitized mobility landscape.

For the past couple of years, the automotive industry has been one of the most positively affected by the implementation of innovative technology in their business models and product offerings. Nowadays, it is considered the most data-driven industry in the world, which means it is definitely taking advantage of technology and responding to the new consumer demands. Big data and Artificial Intelligence are playing an extremely important role in this new era, allowing the rise of fundamental innovation and disruption.

According to Forbes, “by 2020, growing digitalization and advancements in technology will have increased the automotive industry investments to $82 billion”, so we need to be prepared. Here are some of the most groundbreaking technologies that are changing the mobility game:

  1. Of course, Mobility-As-A-Service (MaaS) is one of the most important changes of the last decade. Cars are no longer just basic forms of transit; they also represent connection and pleasant experiences for customers (easier, cheaper, and safer rides). Moreover, ride sharing not only benefits the consumer; it also positively affects the environment. The more car sharing, the less single-passenger cars in our driveways, which means we can significantly reduce carbon emissions.
  2. Predictive Technology is also changing the driving experience thanks to Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning. There is no need to guess if your car needs maintenance or replacement anymore. There are advanced self-diagnostic systems that let you know if there is any issue, sometimes even before damage happens, considerably reducing mechanical failures.
  3. Self-driving functionalities are also changing the game. What is expected is that this groundbreaking technology will help save more than 900.000 lives, because it will reduce a big amount of car accidents caused by human mistakes.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released a study that shows that 94% of crashes can be produced by human errors or bad decisions, like drunk driving.
  4. Furthermore, the manufacturing process is also changing. Smart factories use innovative algorithms and Artificial Intelligence to customize their consumers’ needs. Manufacturers can get information from other devices and use it in their production lines, enabling them to make improvements in a couple of days; reducing the five-to-seven-year cycle to innovate. According to The Atlantic, nowadays, 67 percent of companies in the industrial manufacturing sector have an ongoing smart factory

Technology is deeply changing the industry. There will be great opportunities for those who evolve, innovate and take customer experience to another level. At Eyesafe we are aware of these industry changes. We understand the world we live in and we work to create smarter and safer ecosystems in order to have a sustainable future.
